Why do dog trainings fail?

3 Reasons why dog training fail

#1 Humanizing dogs

I see this so many times. We as people love to talk to our paw buddy.   As a matter of fact, people talk too much in training.  Remember dogs' native language is not English.  Repeating commands and sweet-talking will only confuse the dog.  I am not talking about giving verbal commands.  But the extra words that we speak while in training will not add any benefits.  Next time, try to cut the words.

#2 You don't take responsibility as the leader.

Four things you have to control to effectively train your dog.  This is like a setup to have your dog listen to you.  The four elements are food, space, situation, and walk.  There are subtle details you have to show to your dog so he/she will learn to look up to you.  Your dog needs to think you are the parent, teacher, and leader at the same time.  I don't mean to sound like alpha-dog-theory-person but you have to be in control in these four areas. You don't have to scold your dog but you want to only go forward when your dog offers you good behavior. Let's say your dog is excited when you feed him. Then, you want to wait until your dog calms down. Rewarding bad behavior is the worst thing you can do in dog training.

#3 Not being able to listen to your do

We as dog owners miss this the most. Your dog is always trying to communicate with you with his/her body language. Dogs often times speak with their body language and they display certain stresses and emotions through these body gestures. They are called "calming signals." These signals are very subtle and easy to miss for most of untrained eyes. It is essential for the owners to learn about these signals to understand your dog more. Once you detect these signals and respond, the bond between you and your dog will increase exponentially. And you want to incorporate these signals in your training method. You will be able to address the areas that your dog is stressing and struggling. You may be slowing down the learning process but the relationship will get stronger.

Final Thoughts

I would like to make a very important recommendation. Buy this book on a calming signal. No, I am not here to just sell you this book. But the topic on the calming signal is almost ignored. Most trainers introduce this idea this is just a small part. But I think this is fundamental when it comes to understanding dogs. It helped me so much in my dog training. This was the missing link for me. So please invest just a few bucks on this and read and reread this book. So you will be able to learn a lot of things we have missed until this point.
