Potty train your puppy in 10 days

Potty training does not have to be difficult.

Many people think potty training is difficult because they don't know where to start. But it only about setting the schedule and following the schedule. Plan the schedule and stick to the schedule. But the most difficult part is that you will have to be disciplined before you can enforce the rules upon your puppy.

First warning: You will lose a lot of sleep, and you have to monitor your puppy 24/7 for at least 2-3 days continually. That is the minimum. But after 2-3 days, it will start to pay off. You will have a perfectly potty-trained puppy. The method is simple, but the work is hard. I assure you that it works. Just get ready to work hard.

Just follow the schedule posted below.  Understand the fundamentals and create a similar schedule as mine.

3-Fundamentals

  1. Dogs need routines, structures, and habits.  They want to wake up at a fixed time. They want to be fed at certain times.  They expect you to take them out on a regular schedule.

  2. Dogs (except for the ones that are from pet shops) don't like to soil their den.  If they know for sure, the house you are living in the space the dog will live, it is very unlikely for the dog to do business inside of the house.

  3. Puppies can only hold 2-3 hours for the longest. As the rule of thumb, the number of months is about the number of hours that the puppy can hold.

In order to be successful, you want to use these 3 fundamentals to your advantage.

Hours puppy can hold = Number of Months + 1

Make sure to add bell training when you do this.  Have a bell ready at the front door. And have your puppy to touch or ring it before you go out the door.  When your puppy is trained, he will ring the bell when he has to go.

Don't scold your puppy when he makes a mistake.  An accident is an accident. As a young puppy, he will naturally have to potty every 2-3 hours.  Instead, you want to take the puppy out to build a strong habit.  When he does the business, praise him.  Bring a nice treat with you when you go out.

If you want to use the crate, that is a great idea as well.  I would live the crate in the same space where you sleep because dogs feel very secure around you. Just make sure that the crate is not too big. Just big enough for him to stand up straight and stretch comfortably.  Throw in a nice cushion.

Puppy do sleep a lot.  This may be good for you.  Don't force him to wake up.  In the morning, when you wake up the puppy, do it very gently.  Or just wait for the puppy to wake up.

Building Habits

Potty training is all about building a habit and routine for your dog.

You need to supervise your puppy constantly. My suggestion is that you leave a collar and leash on the puppy so you can go outside at a moment's notice. And you will be able to do the leash training at home at the same time.

The two things that will matter the most: consistency and monitoring. Just remember these rules.

Lastly, don't make this training a chore. You are raising this puppy because you want to, not because you have to. You want to enjoy the process. People may think that dog training starts when you sign up for a training class, but actually, the training begins from day one you brought the puppy home. And potty training is one of the most important training for your dog. Not only your dog learns how to go potty, but you are forming a very significant relationship with your dog. Dog training is not about only "sit and stay". It is about your puppy getting to know you and respecting you as the leader and parent.
