Many new dog moms and dads are always wondering and thinking which one is better for their dogs: harness or collar. It is tough to answer this question. But we do have to make a wise choice because your dog needs to stay comfortable and safe at the same time. If your dog does not like one or the other, you will have a tough time walking and training your dog. So make sure to understand the pros and cons before you make a choice.

When you should choose a harness over a collar?

In most cases, your dog should be fine and better with a harness.  Harnesses are more secure and safer because they have more protection and coverage around the body.  So the first choice would be a harness.  Harnesses don't choke your dog's throat and neck.  

When you should choose a collar over a harness?

You want to choose a collar when your dog is sensitive.  He could have sensitive skins or sensitive to your touching. If that is the case, you want to minimize touching with your dog and go with a collar. Some senior dogs could have painful paws and it might be a little difficult to put a harness.   You may want to put a collar and leave it on if your dog is senior.
