5 Websites you must bookmark

CONGRATULATIONS!

As a first-time dog parent,  I am sure you are very excited and nervous about your new puppy and have a great plan for a joyful companionship.  But, there will also be responsibilities when taking care of your wonderful buddy. You may face some problems and difficulties.

That’s why you need some help from experts to guide your way. I have listed some websites and resources to give you some help. These will provide you with some expertise.   Make sure to bookmark these sites so you won’t be shorthanded when the problems arise.

  1. AKC

    1. This is a must-site you need to visit even before you get your dog.  AKC is for pure breed dogs but this site will give you great insights on the breed.  You may end up getting a mixed breed but having a knowledge of the breed will make the journey a whole lot easier.  This site has almost all the information about dogs. This is a very good place to start if you are a first-time dog owner (parent).  If you have not adopted a dog yet and do not have much information on the breed you are interested in, akc.org will guide you in the right direction.   You need to start by picking the right kind of breed and the breed that suits your lifestyle.

    2. AKC is one of the most comprehensive sites right now.  AKC has all the information about from breed to health issues about dogs.  Their purpose is to maintain the integrity of the breed so it tells great details about the breed and where you can get the breed of dogs.

    3. For example, if you are interested in getting a golden retriever, it will list all the reputable breeders in your area and they will have to meet all the requirements to be listed on their website.

  2. Webmd.com

    1. The next site you want to bookmark is webmd.com for pets.  Webmd is not only for humans. As a first-time dog parent, you will be overwhelmed by the things you need to know about your dog’s health.  There are so many unexpected things that will happen so you want to keep this site handy.

    2. I remember when I had my first dog, I had no idea about declawing.  I really freaked out when I discovered that my dog had an extra claw on his leg.  It was about 10 years ago so I didn’t have all the internet tools that we have right now.  If I have this information, I would not have freaked out that much. Many times, we are embarrassed to ask these dumb questions.

  3. RoverThere will be times that you cannot take care of your dog.  Emergency and unexpected events could happen in your life. And you want to be prepared.  Make sure to have an account with them just in case.

    1. There are so many dog lovers on this site and you will be able to review the dog sitters and dog walkers.

  4. Dog Training Resources k9ofmine.com

    1. There are many resources on this blog.  It is a very good place to start your dog training.  Dog training does not have to cost a lot of money. It will guide you in the right direction on how you can start dog training today.

    2. The blog lists all the online dog training programs and tells us all the pros and cons. From how to puppy proof your house to all the way to the obedience training.  This is a must-read for anyone interested in dog training. Well, dog training should be for every dog owner. It is not targeted to a certain dog. Many owners wait until the dog displays certain behavioral issues.  But you want to start now and know more about the dog training. It is never too late. Also the saying “you can’t teach an old dog a new trick” is a completely false statement.

    3. One of my favorites is Kikopup on youtube.  She has a beautiful Australian shepherd for her dog and she does an amazing job explaining all the details.  Her method is completely force-free training and she does have a great library of videos on her youtube. You will learn a lot from her.

    4. The blog lists8 different trainers.   They all have pros and cons. Make sure to read thoroughly to find what you need.   For example, Zak George is very famous on YouTube and he is very good with his very fun and outgoing personality.  But the blog points out that the program is not best for behavior modification and aggression. Positive reinforcement trainers oftentimes fail with aggressive dogs and you just need a different method for dogs with aggression.

  5. Amazon.com chewy.com

    1. You will need your supplies.  You need your food, bowls, leashes, harnesses, and some clothes if you live in cold weather areas.  They both have a great selection of products and you should always check the products they have to offer.

    2. If you are looking for quality premium dog products, we do carry them as well.   We have very high-quality good looking leashes and harnesses available. So if you have a chance, give us a visit.  And ask us any questions.
